6 Family friendly things to do around Aviemore

1. Landmark Forest Adventure Park, Carrbridge
Landmark is one big family adventure! A unique place to visit with some amazing attractions. Think wild water coasters, a family friendly roller coaster, a tropical butterfly house with parakeets and exotic flowers, the mind boggling ‘Wonderwood’, High Ropes Trails and a Skydive. Dare you take on the maze with bubbling mud pools, dangerous caverns, dangerous creatures and a magic waterfall gateway? A weekly or season ticket is a must here as one visit is never enough.

2. Cairngorm Mountain, Aviemore
Cairngorm Mountain is home to the UK’s highest funicular railway and highest postbox….postcards at the ready! If you are an adventurous family take a guided walk to the top of Cairngorm Mountain and explore the arctic landscape on the plateau. In winter you can ski or snowboard and there is an onsite snowsports school to help you get started or improve your technique. Home to the highest restaurant in the UK you can dine here during the day with amazing panoramic views of the Cairngorms National Park.

3. Rothiemurchus, Aviemore
Rothiemurchus is a special place at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park on the edge of Aviemore. You can enjoy a relaxing visit here in stunning scenery with wildlife such as red squirrels and deer for company. Rothiemurchus is a magical place to visit with lots of opportunities for adventures. There is something for all ages here and you can enjoy all sorts of activities such as Feeding the Deer, a Hairy Coo Safari, Treezone Aerial Adventure Park, Fishing, Segway Adventures, Quad Bike Treks, Pony Treks, Paddle Boarding the River Spey and Family Rafting to name but a few. After all that fresh air you can enjoy a good slice of cake in the Druie Cafe or some retail therapy at the Rothiemurchus Centre.

4.  The Fun House at Hilton Coylumbridge Hotel, Aviemore
The Fun House is a great all weather option located on site at the Hilton Coylumbridge Hotel. Many of you will remember it as the home of Cyril the Squirrel from childhood visits to Aviemore on family holidays. This is a brilliant facility with a treehouse soft play centre, 18 hole mini golf, mini bowling and video arcade. The American 1950’s-themed diner serves up family friendly options to round off your visit.

5. Highland Folk Museum, Newtonmore
The Highland Folk Museum is Britain’s first open air museum and sits on a site a mile long. A museum that lives and breathes and lets you journey into the past. The kids will love the play park and township houses and you can bribe them with a trip to the old fashioned sweetie shop. If you are a fan of the books and TV series Outlander which has a cult following, you have come to the right place.  In 2014 the 1700s Highland Township was used as a filming location for the TV series.

Friendly locals 😉 #highlandfolkmuseum #blackhouses

6. Highland Wildlife Park, Kincraig
At the Highland Wildlife Park you will find Scottish wildlife and endangered animals of the world’s mountains and tundra in a beautiful Highland setting. Home to the UK’s first polar bear cub for 25 years, it is an exciting time at the Park. When you enter the Park you can drive around the main reserve and then check out the walk around area on foot. The Park is home to native species such as the Scottish Wildcat and Capercaillie as well as Amur Tigers, Snow Leopards, Polar Bears, Northern Lynx, European Grey Wolf and Japanese Macaque. We highly recommend taking the guided land rover trip round the main reserve or attending the daily talks. At no extra cost to your entry ticket this is a great way to get insight from the animal keepers as you drive around.

These are just some of the brilliant things to do around Aviemore.
